People with Parkinson's have difficulties at the level of the larynx or voice box , they have shallow breathing, weak and uncoordinated articulation, and velopharyngeal disorders.
The Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, is a behavioral treatment program that has shown significant long-term improvement in speech and voice functions in individuals with idiopathic Parkinson's disease.
LSVT is an intense programme requiring clients to attend for one hour four times a week for four weeks (in some instances 6 weeks is required) and attend follow up appointments 6 weeks after the initial course and at 6 months afterwards.
There maybe opportunity for maintenance groups in conjunction with Sheffield University.
