Lee Silverman Voice Treatment

Speech and voice disorders are very common among individuals suffering from Parkinson's disease.

People with Parkinson's have difficulties at the level of the larynx or voice box , they have shallow breathing, weak and uncoordinated articulation, and velopharyngeal disorders.

The Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, is a behavioral treatment program that has shown significant long-term improvement in speech and voice functions in individuals with idiopathic Parkinson's disease.

LSVT is an intense programme requiring clients to attend for one hour four times a week for four weeks (in some instances 6 weeks is required) and attend follow up appointments 6 weeks after the initial course and at 6 months afterwards.

There maybe opportunity for maintenance groups in conjunction with Sheffield University.
